2019 promises to be an innovative and exciting year for consumers as a number of the more traditional content providers look to launch their own on-demand platforms. This may be a response to groups such as Netflix and Amazon grabbing market share through their more tailored offerings, but ultimately reflects a shift in consumer preferences. This is evidenced by a sharp increase in the number of “cord cutters” (US households without cable or satellite) as there are now 16 million households with “over the air” TV status, a 48% increase over the last 8 years.
