As part of Proxima’s prioritization of SDG 13, Climate Action, we have commenced our net zero journey and continue to invest in this initiative.
We monitor our carbon footprint to recognize its impact and take accountability by changing the way we travel, investing in sustainable office spaces, and chairing knowledge-sharing events to support our decarbonization activities and net zero journey.
We have invested in two carbon offsetting projects which enhance environmental protection and drive positive social and economic change in local communities. Although this approach is not an exclusive solution to addressing climate change, it represents our commitment to achieving net zero while reducing our impacts and ensuring we continue to evolve as an organization that delivers procurement with purpose.
Net Zero through Climate Care
In 2021 our CO2e footprint was approximately 1604 tonnes across scope 1,2 & 3 covering leased property assets, electricity, travel, commuting/working from home, real-estate activities, cleaning and waste. We invested with Climate Care to ensure that we were Net Zero in 2021 and have committed to be Net Zero every year moving forwards to compliment efforts in carbon reduction.
Our Net Zero projects
Our carbon offsetting projects located in China and Kenya, 2 projects which are verified by CCB, VCS and Gold Standard VER ensuring high-quality and reliable project delivery. They also align nicely with our wider SDG commitments.
- Black River Afforestation (China) – the restoration of degraded land and enhancement of local biodiversity through the planting of native trees
- Burn Efficient Cookstoves (Kenya) – distribution of cleaner and more efficient cookstoves throughout local communities, reducing indoor air pollution and increasing female employment for a market-leading stove manufacturer called Jikokoa
Carbon reduction
Of course, offsetting is just part of a solution to be Net Zero, whilst making efforts to decarbonize. We have a team looking into how we can change specifications, supplier or internal behaviours to practically reduce our footprint in the context of our services and market.
