Discover

But we go far beyond assessing whether you have the right deal in place with the right supplier.  The true potential of procurement is released when you not only look outwards to the supplier community, but also looks inwards at your organisation, acting as an internal consultant or a self-reflexive analyst, challenging and influencing behaviours, business rules and ways of working.

So in addition to assessing how well you are engaging with the supplier community, our Discover phase also focuses on understanding what your real business needs are, what challenges you face both at a strategic level and also at a day-to-day operational level, and how aligned procurement is with the wider business strategy.

We break the Discover phase into two parts

  • Firstly, we provide a top down assessment of your overall procurement capability and how this meets your organisation's needs - capability in terms of category expertise, leadership, technology, alignment to corporate strategy, and procurement operations.
  • Secondly, we conduct a thorough category-by-category review to identify opportunities for financial and operational improvements.  The output from each of these assessments is a report detailing the work conducted, the findings together with analysis, and a road map for how to implement the findings.

Each of these projects involve in-depth analysis of your procurement data, and interviews with key individuals, from functional heads, to key stakeholders, to end users.

Some of the benefits that this insightful exercise will give you:

  • Category reports detailing where savings opportunities exists
  • An assessment of the capability of your existing approach relative to peers and industry best practice
  • Ideas on other opportunities to improve your cost management
  • Visibility, so that you know the facts about what you are buying, where, from which suppliers
  • Greater control over your business’ procurement activity
  • Certainty to act
  • Insight into how to change internal behaviours and practices
  • Independent challenge
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to change – we take your people on the journey with us

Ultimately, at the end of the Discover process you will have a business case detailing the change that can be achieved within your business, and in what timescales.  You will then be empowered to make an informed decision about how procurement can better power your business.
